Pecan Pie

There’s something special about having pecan pie during the holidays, dunno what it is…

I added my own little twist to it because that’s what I do. I figured dark chocolate goes really well with pecan pie and attempted to do something different. Basically I added a layer of dark chocolate on top of the crust – before adding in the filling. Wasn’t sure if everyone was going to like it but I think they did.


About half a cup of dark chocolate chips  – melted

1 frozen pie crust or if you’re real ambitious, your own homemade version

2 1/2 cups of pecans

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 cup corn syrup (says dark but i used light)

3 eggs

1 1/2 cup vanilla extract

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cinnamon


Lay out pie crust in pie dish – pour melted chocolate over and refrigerate for about 15-20 minutes, once the chocolate is hard pour pecans into dish

Whisk the eggs, corn syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, melted butter, salt, and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Once completely combined and thick, pour evenly over pecans.

Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes – I think I ended up baking mine for about 80 minutes though. To save the crust from browning make sure you cover with aluminum foil!
